Marga León holds a PhD in Social Policy from the London School of Economics (United Kingdom). She was a Marie Curie Fellow at the Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute in Florence (Italy). From 2004 to 2010, she was a lecturer in Comparative Social Policy at the University of Kent (United Kingdom). She has been a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley (Fulbright, 2018), the University of Oslo (2022), and the University of Oxford (2025). In 2019, she was awarded the ICREA ACADEMIA Prize for research excellence for a period of 5 years. Since 2021, she has been the Academic Director of the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo-Ernest Lluch Centre (CUIMP-B).
Her research focuses on comparative social policy with a particular focus on gender and family policy and the Southern European welfare model. In recent years, she has been part of competitive research projects, notably the European projects EUROSHIP (2020-23), rEUsilience (2022-25), and SWINS (2025-28). Her latest book in Spanish, El Arte de Pactar, Estado de Bienestar, Desigualdad y Acuerdo Social was published by Ediciones La Catarata in 2023.
