Amilcar Moreira is Assistant Professor of Economic Sociology at ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics & Management, University of Lisbon. He holds a PhD in Social and Policy Sciences (Social Policy) from the University of Bath (United Kingdom). Previously he held appointments at Trinity College (University of Dublin), OsloMet and the Institute of Social Sciences (University of Lisbon). Currently he coordinates ISEG's Policy Lab and sits on the Board of the Institute of Public Policy (IPP) - a leading, non-partisan think-tank in Portugal. He is also a consultant to Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos, a leading private funder of social research in Portugal. He currently sits on the Board of ESPANET.
In recent years, his research has focused on the social policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and the inflationary crisis that followed. Earlier his research has focused on the financial sustainability of the Portuguese Pension System and on the 2nd wave of activation reforms in advanced economies. He has been involved in international funded projects, such as MOPACT or InGRID-2. Recently he co-edited (with Bent Greve and Minna Van Gerven) the Handbook of the Political Economy of Social Policy (2024, Edward Elgar).
